Term Definition
Boppy

Hi. I came across your website and I love it! My 22 month old daughter asks for "Boppy" after the Boppy nursing pillow we always use. In her mind, Boppy stands for the pillow and my boobs!

Breastie Dumplings / Num nums

We started off with Breastie Dumplings ( a joking reference to Blackadder) and one day it dawned on me that it had stuck! And that I was likely to have a toddler shouting Breastie Dumplings in the supermarket!! My daughter used a double cough code ( no idea why) for a very long time..later coupled with pulling my shirt up and helping herself. In the meantime I came across Num Nums on a website which struck me a very funny and that fell into general use and stuck! Now my daughter Num Nums and it's endearing as well as funny. She is starting to say Boobs but her favourite is ooooh Mum..my Num Nums (think Kenneth Williams, ooh Matron).

Brrmm brrmm / Booboo

Lizzie (who is now 5 and now fascinated with the fact she used to get milk from my boo boos (still calls them that and calls it booboo milk as opposed to normal milk), started calling it brrrm brrm brrrm brrm (sounded like a car imitation) at about 5 months and later went on to booboo . I used to ask her if she wanted more booboo when she was little - I guess brrrrm brmm was the best a 5 month old could do (I was mumumumum at the time).

Bubba

When my son now three started talking he called it Bubba. I am now still breastfeeding my 4 month old and when he hears him cry he tells me that the baby wants a bubba.

Bubba / Mummy Milk

My daughter now 2 and 1 month old calls it both Bubba and Mummy Milk, the first one is more discreet if we are in a supermarket or other public place rather than when she starts yelling at the top of her voice Mummy Milk!

She is still an early morning and pre bedtime drinker with only short sips in between for comfort.

Bubbas

When my son was old enough he called it Bubbas.

Bubbies

I always said "do you want some booby" and when my son could talk he called it "bubbies" - much more disceet! Now my 2 year old twins use the same word and they all refer to stand up bubbies, sleepy bubbies, cheer up bubbies etc.

Buckey-buckey

Laura, our almost 2 year old calls it Buckey, Buckey. She will also say "other side" when she wants to change from one to the other.

Buh / Buhkka

My son is 3 today and still nursing. He started calling it mama at 3 mos, then Buh at 10 mos, then Buhk at 1 year, which has evolved into Buhkka, which he repeats sometimes and sounds like a desperate chicken!!!

Busty Pop

My 6 year old calls it "busty pop".

Button

Jonas, 16 months old, calls it "button," because he associates belly buttons with nursing.

Ch-chi

Hi Jane!

My almost two year old nursling, Daniel, calls it: CHI-CHI! Leche is Spanish for milk, and I've always called it chi-chi and now he says it himself :-)

Chi-chi

My 3 year old daughter has been calling it chi-chi (or she-she) since she was about 2. (She calls me her she-she mama). I had every intention of stopping her nursing by now, but she had other plans!

Chocolate & Vanilla Boobs

In my house, breastfeeding is something that we joked about frequently right after my youngest son was born. My teenage daughters used to always come up to me while I was nursing and ask whether I was using the chocolate or vanilla boob. Well, these names stuck. I now have a chocolate boob on the right and a vanilla one on the left.

Please don't use my name. I'd rather not have everyone know that one of my breasts produces chocolate milk.

Come

My two year old son just says "Come" every time he wants to nurse.

I suppose it started because when I would bring him to my breast I would say come.

The way he says it though is funny, he says KU, KU KU Come, a short sharp K sound. Sometimes in public he starts to shout "Come Mama" and people probably wonder why he is telling me to come when I am already there.
