| Comida |
Spanish for food |
| Coontie |
I have a 6 month old who cannot talk quite yet and as such has no names but my godson calls his coontie. God alone knows where he got it from, as such everyone at church now refers to all breastfeeding mothers breasts as coontie. We now have a generation of 3yr olds and younger wanting their coonties!! |
| Cough |
I have no idea why, but my daughter, now 14 months, coughs pointedly when she wants to breastfeed - she's been doing it since about 9 months. I try to teach her to say "milk", but when I say "do you want milk?" she just nods. It would be rather discreet if it weren't for the fact that she does it while yanking at my clothes. |
| Dap-dap |
My 22 month old daughter calls it dap-dap. |
| Dar |
My nearly-three-year-old Daniel calls my milk and my breasts "dar" and breastfeeding is "Daniel having dar". He started talking a bit late and used to point to things saying "dar" and ended up meaning milk or breast quite often. He has a list of places for "having dar" which he likes to recite e.g. dar-home, dar-park, dar-shopping, dar-school, dar-chair, dar-bed, dar-movies etc etc. |
| Dede |
(use the short e sound) It's one among many Filipino terms for "breasts" and aside from being a noun, it is also a verb meaning "breastfeed". My son says "I want dede" as a way of requesting and I say "Dede na(already)" when its time to nurse. |
| Dewey |
And both children used it! I think it came from "DO you want to nurse?" They both started by saying DO and then DEWEY. |
| Dibdah / Milky |
My uncle, now 70 years old, used to call it "dibdah". Not sure where it came from, but apparently my grandmother breastfed him until he was almost at school. He stopped because of teasing from other children! Makes for a nice family story. I'm still breastfeeding my 2 year old daughter, and my 2 older girls were breastfed until they were 2 1/2 years old. "Milky" is the not-so-interesting name, but my middle daughter would be very specific. She would order "milky-couch", "milky-bed" or "milky chair"! |
| Diddy |
Hi, my toddler (2 yrs and 3 months) calls a breastfeed "diddy". This word was coined by my mother who when my daughter was feeding at around 5 months old, would play a game where my daughter came off the breast to peek at Gran'ma and Gran'ma would say "Get back on that diddy" and laugh. My daughter loved the game and the name stuck - now she says "A mat diddy" = "I want diddy". |
| Dink-Dink |
This name arose from me asking my daughter if she would like a "drink" whilst at the same time tapping my chest. I didn't want her to end up shouting something embarrassing in public, so I purposely avoided "boobies!" and similar words. At first she would poke me in the chest to signal that she wanted a feed, then she started saying "Dink-Dink". She asks for other drinks by name, so there is no confusion. She also says "That one!" or "[Other] side!", to indicate the opposite breast {usually when I've just got us settled down to start on the first side!) She is now two. |
| Dis-dis dat-dat |
What a great webpage! The things kids will say. Lovely and amusing. My daughter (17mos) call them this this or dat dat. She chooses which side she wants and then says "dat dat" or "dis dis". Probably started this when I started asking her this one or that one....she changes this into "dis num or dat num":) Cracks me and my husband up every time. |
| Do |
I couldn't wait to find out what my son would call nursing. It took us a while to realize he was calling it "Do". He must have grabbed the very first word of my frequent question "Do you want to nurse?" |
| Do-doo |
Well my daughter is 20 months old, she is still breastfeeding. Well about 3 weeks ago we both got really sick and then she didn't want to breastfeed. So I figured that's good, she will quit now. She lasted almost one week, then she started asking for it, which she call do-doo. So I figured well I only give her at night time, well I was wrong and she seems to be loving do-doo more then ever now. When I am relaxing she can lay there and go an go. |
| Doe |
Our 21 month old daughter began asking to nurse by saying "Doe". We've tried to get her to say Milk but she still says Doe. She tries to say milk by saying Moke but that is only after we correct her on the Doe request. |
| Du-na |
"du-lait" is French for some milk, but she pronounces it as "du-na" I think it's very cute its our own code word that only us and our family understands. |
