L

Term Definition
La Lee

I somewhat jokingly started calling it "Mama Latte" after spending time in coffee shops with other nursing moms. My daughter picked up on it and pronounced it "La Lee".

Breastfeeding was "La Lee" from then until she weaned at 4 1/2 years old.

Thanks for the great list!

La-la

When I was nursing my first toddler I didn't know enough to encourage her to have a "secret" code for nursing in public - so I was frequently chagrined by her loud, clear voice, insisting "I want to drink the milk in my nursies all gone !"

When the time came again for toddler nursing I called a family meeting to discuss an appropriate term. Because I had been an active La Leche League Leader for many years my older children came up with "LaLa" as an appropriate word.

I ended up tandem nursing the next two until close to kindergarten age. They were 17 months apart in age and both called nursing "LaLa". Slick in public because "I want to LaLa" quickly became - " ok - lets sing . . . lalalalalalala" etc ! : ) until we found a quiet place to nurse.

Remembering fondly

LaLa / Chocolate Binkys

Lala for "vanilla".

Lauk

Jane,

Emma, my youngest, called it "Lauk" (nearest approximation) and used this term to ask for it from anyone suitably equipped, including her carer when changing after swimming!!!

regards

Lolo

My son at 3yrs 3 months says "lolo", which is the French baby-word for milk (lait).

He cracked us up the other day with a long dissertation on chests, nipples and breastfeeding, which included the gem, "We don't get lolo from Daddies because their lolos are fluffy!" Well, his Daddy's are!

I guess to a small person, it's as good an explanation as any of why there's no substitute for Mummy.

Lovin

I would like to submit the name that both my children called nursing. We used the term "loving", (although it often comes out sounding more like "lovin"). Right from the start i would refer to nursing as "loving" and when they were old enough they would say things like "mummy i need some lovin" and so on. It was a very discreet term too. also I think that calling it "loving" demonstrates how breastmilk is simply so much more than a nutritional thing.
